Eukanuba, Iams Recall 2013

Eukanuba, Iams Dry Foods Recalled

Eleven Eukanuba dog recipes, eight Iams dog recipes and 10 Iams cat recipes are involved in the limited recall.
Selected lots of Eukanuba and Iams dry dog food and Iams dry cat food are being voluntarily recalled because of potential salmonella contamination.

The manufacturer, Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co., reported Wednesday that no salmonella-related illnesses had been linked to any of the lots.

The recall, limited to the United States, represents a small amount, about one-tenth of 1 percent, of annual production of the foods.

“These products were made during a 10-day window at a single manufacturing site,ā€ the company stated. “P&Gā€™s routine testing determined that some products made during this time frame have the potential for salmonella contamination.

“As a precautionary measure,ā€ the company added, “P&G is recalling the potentially impacted products made during this time frame. No other dry dog food, dry cat food, dog or cat canned wet food, biscuits/treats or supplements are affected by this announcement.ā€

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning in pets include lethargy, diarrhea, fever and vomiting. People who handle contaminated pet products may exhibit similar symptoms.

The company advised pet owners to discard any recalled food and call 800-208-0172 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday for information about receiving a voucher for a replacement product.
